It will be held at 6pm on Tuesday 20th March in RSM G35.

The meeting will be followed by an MTSoc/DramaSoc Barnight at the union.

The meeting is comprised of three main parts.

The Chair’s and Treasurer’s Report

The Chair and Treasurer give a report outlining the activities, status and financial position of the society for the last year.

Committee Elections

The Committee for the next academic year is elected. More information provided below.

The Annual Review

Here the members of the society are given a chance to voice their opinion on the running of the society. What do you think worked, what could have been improved? We open the floor to any observations, compliments or criticism you might have in an effort to improve the experience the society gives. Notes taken here can have a very real impact e.g. last year there was request for more social events, this led to the position of the new committee position of Social Officer. Please think long and hard about what might be improved upon and come ready to discuss.

Elections

To run for a committee position, you will need to be seconded by two other MTSoc members. When you have these, please send your name, the position you are running for and the name of your seconders to the returning officer at “felix.millne08@imperial.ac.uk”.

At the AGM, you will have a chance to give a short speech on why you should be elected. Once all nominees have given their speech, the floor will be open to questions. A ballot will then be taken under STV (single transferrable vote) to decode who shall be given the position.

The committee positions available to run for are:

Chair

Responsible for overseeing the whole of the society, and for representing the society at AEB meetings. The Chair calls committee meetings and assumes any duties in the committee that are not being held. The Chair also holds financial responsibility for the society alongside the Treasurer.

Vice Chair

Responsible for organising events outside of the society main performances including ArtsFest. Takes chair of any committee meetings when chair is not present.

Treasurer

Oversees the society’s financial operations and reports the financial situation of the society back to the committee. Day to day financial transfers, claims and income is processed by the treasurer, as well as larger scale show budgets and the yearly budget of the society within the union.

Secretary

Responsible for the taking of minutes in committee meetings and with the dissemination of the society newsletter. The secretary also monitors the MTSoc email account and processes any incoming messages.

Publicity Officer

Responsible for the public awareness of the society’s events. The PO is tasked with producing any publicity material (posters, flyers, programmes, tickets etc) and with coordinating a publicity campaign to raise awareness of events.

Social Officer

The Social Officer is responsible for arranging events outside of the rehearsal schedule. This involves outings, meals, bar nights and arranging food in for late night rehearsals etc. The position was created to ensure that members not currently involved in a show are not isolated from the society.

Webmaster

Responsible for the running of the website and of maintaining any online social media (i.e. facebook, twitter etc). Coordinates with the Publicity Officer to create an online publicity campaign for shows.

Luck be a Lady!

Gangsters, gambling and glamour are coming to Budleigh Salterton this Summer with MTSoc Tour’s production of Guys and Dolls.

Set in prohibition-era Broadway, Nathan Detroit is running out of places to run his secret, underground, floating craps game. Only a crazy bet with a high roller like Sky Masterson will earn him the cash he needs in time to set up the game. But when Nathan bets Sky that he can’t woo the pure-hearted, local mission worker Sarah Brown, he finds that he may have underestimated Sky; and Sky may have underestimated love’s ability to sneak up on you when you least expect it.

Colourful characters, a fast paced plot, dialogue dripping with wit and show-stopping musical numbers such as “Luck be a Lady Tonight” and “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat” make Guys and Dolls as popular today as it was when it was released over 60 years ago. This production will really bring out the best of any performer; whether you’re a singer, a dancer, an actor or all three, there’s a place for you in Guys and Dolls. And with an opportunity to join a society increasingly known for its quality shows and excellent production values, as well as the sheer fun for all involved, you’d be mad to miss out.

It pulls back the curtain on the chaos that is the Freshers’ Fair; the rivalry of student press, the mental instability of the Union Officers and the well-hidden camaraderie of scientists against anyone associated with the Arts.

With a score borrowed from shows including HMS Pinafore, Fiddler on the Roof, Avenue Q, My Fair Lady and Cabaret, this should be a great night out for anyone with an interest in Musical Theatre.

Won’t you Charleston with me?

It’s the roaring twenties and at Madame Dubonnet’s finishing school, the pupils are anything but perfect young ladies! They’re all after just one thing: a boy friend. Poor little rich girl Polly just can’t seem to find love…until she falls for a local messenger boy. Things then get complicated as Polly’s father (who has banned her from having boyfriends) unexpectedly arrives from England. As the young ladies and their beaus quick step their way through the French Riviera, even the prim and proper Madame Dubonnet starts to find romance!
