Luck be a Lady!

Gangsters, gambling and glamour are coming to Budleigh Salterton this Summer with MTSoc Tour’s production of Guys and Dolls.

Set in prohibition-era Broadway, Nathan Detroit is running out of places to run his secret, underground, floating craps game. Only a crazy bet with a high roller like Sky Masterson will earn him the cash he needs in time to set up the game. But when Nathan bets Sky that he can’t woo the pure-hearted, local mission worker Sarah Brown, he finds that he may have underestimated Sky; and Sky may have underestimated love’s ability to sneak up on you when you least expect it.

Colourful characters, a fast paced plot, dialogue dripping with wit and show-stopping musical numbers such as “Luck be a Lady Tonight” and “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat” make Guys and Dolls as popular today as it was when it was released over 60 years ago. This production will really bring out the best of any performer; whether you’re a singer, a dancer, an actor or all three, there’s a place for you in Guys and Dolls. And with an opportunity to join a society increasingly known for its quality shows and excellent production values, as well as the sheer fun for all involved, you’d be mad to miss out.

Won’t you Charleston with me?

It’s the roaring twenties and at Madame Dubonnet’s finishing school, the pupils are anything but perfect young ladies! They’re all after just one thing: a boy friend. Poor little rich girl Polly just can’t seem to find love…until she falls for a local messenger boy. Things then get complicated as Polly’s father (who has banned her from having boyfriends) unexpectedly arrives from England. As the young ladies and their beaus quick step their way through the French Riviera, even the prim and proper Madame Dubonnet starts to find romance!

Nicest Kids in Town will follow on from the success of last years revue (Don’t Tell Mama). It will be produced by Michael W with direction from Lucy H, Phil R, Seb J. The choreography is being done by the very talented James Perry with Musical Direction from Zoe H with Laura M and Rob F helping out. The band will reasonably small and made up of familar faces as well as some new and exciting talent!

Nicest Kids in Town gently focuses on school stereotypes taking a light hearted look at some of the more comical people and situations in school and drawing attention to some slightly more downbeat situations. Featuring songs from some of the well known musicals: Hairspray, West Side Story, Mamma Mia! and maybe introducing you to some new songs from 13 and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, it promises to be lots of FUN!

This is just a chance for everyone to get stuck in, have some fun and do something they may not have done before so it would be great to see as many people come and support us as possible!

Performances will be at 7:30pm on Sunday 6th and Monday 7th December in the Union Concert Hall.
